"No," she says with a faint smile, certain Steve already knows the answer to that question. Maeve can't remember a time in her life when she wasn't heaped with responsibility, even if it was just the job of caring for herself when everyone else who was supposed to help her with it fucked off somewhere. Her mum is an addict, her dad is god only knows where, and Sean is a fuckup in his own right.

He'd tried, at least, but only for a little while, and then he'd fucked off, too.

"Never really done fuck all," she admits, chewing her lower lip as she tries not to smile.
