When Steve cuddles up to Maeve again, it takes a few moments, but something cuts through the happy, fuzzy blanket of feelings that he has for her. She's tense and almost squirming, and Steve pulls back to look at her face, frowning when he sees her furrowed brows and little pout.
"Hey, I'm okay," he assures her, reaching up to cup her cheek. He may not really understand the gravity of what happened just yet, but he doesn't want her to be upset or worry about him. "You saved me. I'm gonna be fine, babe."
As the car pulls up to the curb in front of his apartment building, Steve gently kisses one downturned brow and then the other, nudging their noses together as he reaches for the door. "Let's just go inside, huh? I want it to be just you and me."
Steve looks up and catches the driver's eyes in the rearview mirror. "No offense."
