It isn't talking about it that makes him feel stupid. It's that he wasn't more careful about it, didn't think it all through, and he hurt her feelings. He doesn't really want to remind her of that, so he just nods as he curls his fingers gently under her chin, thumbing at the end of it.

"Yeah, I guess it is." He studies her face, cupping her cheek and thumbing at the corner of her eye, so relieved to have her back in his arms. It's only been days but it feels so much longer, and the relief at knowing that they'll be okay makes him feel like a weight has been lifted from his shoulders.

"So, um, to recap," Steve begins cautiously, biting at the inside of his lip. "It's okay if I hold out a little hope? I won't try to change your mind. I promise I won't. But--" He swallows hard and looks at her hopefully. "But you'll tell me if you think you might change yours?"
